Wiesbaden decides on city-wide use of video identification
In a groundbreaking decision, the city parliament of the Hessian state capital has approved a motion by the Wiesbaden parliamentary groups Volt, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, SPD and DIE LINKE for the city-wide introduction of the video identification procedure invented by WebID and now established worldwide. This decision was made in the interests of citizen-friendly eGovernment and can now be seen as the next milestone in the digital transformation of the city administration following the great success of the online registration for marriage and digital registration and re-registration implemented with WebID.
Shortly before Easter, the Hessian state capital of Wiesbaden was the first German administration to announce its intention to use the video identification process throughout the city. With a usage rate of over 98 per cent and a user satisfaction rate of 94 per cent, the VideoID process invented by WebID and established worldwide has been used in Wiesbaden in collaboration with it.x since 2020 to offer digital registration for marriages. This was followed in 2023 by the further integration of the procedure for digitising registration and re-registration, the functionality of which has a satisfaction rate of 100 percent to date. With the aim of making other administrative services just as accessible, fast and user-friendly, the motion by the Wiesbaden parliamentary groups Volt, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, SPD and DIE LINKE for the city-wide introduction of the video identification procedure has now been adopted by a large majority.

Frank S. Jorga, founder and co-CEO of WebID Solutions, comments:
„We are of course very pleased with the city parliament’s decision. At the same time, we are proud that our video identification process is already so well received and appreciated by the citizens of Wiesbaden. Both of these factors indicate that the time for the digital transformation of our administrative landscape has finally arrived.“
Both services that have already been introduced are available on the website of the state capital of Wiesbaden. Further information on which areas of application are prioritised for the city-wide use of video identification is not yet available at this time.
