2012

The Founding of WebID

In 2011, Frank S. Jorga had a visionary idea with the potential to fundamentally change the way we conduct online transactions. He envisioned a world where people no longer had to physically present themselves for important online transactions, such as opening a bank account. Instead, this could be done conveniently and legally via a video call. With this revolutionary idea, he founded WebID in 2012, together with Franz Thomas Fürst and Tim-Markus Kaiser. Shortly after, his brother Sven Jorga joined the founding team, adding further momentum to the company.

2014

The First Big Steps

On April 8, 2014, the first bank customer used WebID’s video identification technology, leading to partnerships with numerous leading financial service providers. This innovation set new industry standards and led to the publication of key BaFin circulars. In early 2014, WebID received official approval for its process, offering an efficient alternative to the PostIdent procedure. In 2016, WebID introduced the Qualified Electronic Signature, allowing customers to sign legally binding contracts online. Additionally, a new location was opened in Kiel, offering tailored development and IT services.

2015

Rise to Global Player

While opening a high-security video identification center in Solingen and another key location in Hamburg, WebID began expanding internationally. In addition to expanding into the German-speaking region with branches in Austria and Switzerland, WebID also ventured into India to explore new markets.

2016

Online Contract Signing

WebID introduces the Qualified Electronic Signature (QES). This allows identified customers to sign legally binding contracts for additional services offered by partners, such as credit agreements or insurance policies.

2017

Full Automation

WebID introduced a fully automated identification process based on technology developed and partially patented in 2012/13. This advancement improved both the security and user-friendliness of online identification procedures.

2018

Entry into the U.S. Market

With offices in San Mateo and New York, WebID made the leap across the Atlantic, supported by the development of automated products.

2019

Biometric Innovations

WebID AutoID volutionized ID verification with AI — available 24/7 worldwide.

2020

Online Age Verification

The KJM evaluated WebID AVS as one of the first online age verification procedures.

Online Identification with Banking: With WebID AccountID, verifying identity online became easier and faster than ever.

2021

Investor Entry

The entry of investor AnaCap strengthened WebID’s ambitious growth strategy and global expansion of its offerings.
