The German Anti-Money Laundering Act (GwG)

Based on the EU-wide Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD) , the German Anti-Money Laundering Act obligates companies in the financial sector to verify identities within their KYC and KYB processes. The aim of the requirements in §§ 10 to 15 GwG is to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and other forms of financial fraud.Furthermore, companies are required to conduct customer due diligence checks, perform risk classifications, implement transaction monitoring measures, and establish processes for reporting suspicious activities.

eIDAS Regulation (EU No. 910/2014)

On May 20, 2024, the revision of the “Regulation (EU) No. 910/2014” on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market came into force through Regulation “(EU) No. 2024/1183,” known as eIDAS 2.0. A central element is the introduction of an identity wallet (EUDI Wallet), enabling individuals and companies to use valid identification both online and offline and to access authentication services securely, easily, and uniformly across Europe. It also aims to improve interoperability between national identification systems.

Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA)

With DORA, Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 on digital operational resilience in the financial sector, the EU has created regulation addressing cybersecurity, ICT risks, and digital operational resilience.This regulation is intended to strengthen the European financial market against cyber risks and ICT incidents. Since January 17, 2025, all companies in the financial sector have been required to implement the obligations arising from DORA.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Binding since 2018, the GDPR defines how personal data of natural persons must be processed by companies based in the EU or offering services to EU citizens, even if located outside the EU.

What is VideoID (Review) and how does it work?

VideoID (Review) is our automated solution with some additional features. To improve security, we perform an additional hologram check during the ID scan. Additionally, after a user has completed the automated part of the identification, a review is performed, where one of our specially trained agents reviews the data and information from the automated identification steps and then approves or rejects the identification.

The Identification steps are completed by the user in a matter of seconds. Fast and efficient. After this, a review is performed.

How long does an agent review take?

Does every single identification need to be reviewed by an agent?

This fully depends on your requirements and applicable regulations. We are fully flexible in designing this process and can offer you various options to define individual quotas and thresholds.

Which identity documents does WebID support?

What is the difference between VideoID (Live) and VideoID (Review)?

With VideoID (Live), the identification is performed in a live call with an agent. VideoID (Review) works without a live call by having the user conduct an automated identification process which is then reviewed (and approved) by a specially trained agent.

Why is it called VideoID (Review), when the product is clearly an AutoID with Review?

There are no fixed definitions and sometimes, the term VideoID is used for automated identification solutions but also for video-call-based solutions. This feature is also sometimes referred to as “Video Selfie”.

Can I add a qualified electronic signature (QES) after the ident process?

Yes, you can as VideoID (Review) is eIDAS compliant. Of course, any other type of electronic signature is also legally permitted.

Is the hologram detection working on web browser and app?

Due to the fact that we need to ensure an optimal lighting environment to detect the hologram on the identity document, hologram detection is only available in our WebID app or integrated into your app via our SDK as the process utilizes the flashlight of the end-user’s smartphone or tablet.
