ImmoScout24 is an online portal for real estate providers, owners, tenants and buyers that was founded in 1998 as the first nationwide online marketplace for real estate. Background

Millions of people use ImmoScout24 to search for a new home online every day. Once the dream property has been found, they need to convince the landlord or landlady as quickly as possible before someone else gets the apartment.

It is therefore best to start the application process immediately, which is why ImmoScout24 has continuously expanded its range of support services for a secure, efficient and transparent application. Applicants who submit all documents in a bundled and clear manner have a higher chance of success, as this is the best way for landlords to assess whether they are suitable tenants.

Since a current credit report, a so-called ‘Bonitätsauskunft’, plays a crucial role in the chance of being awarded the apartment, this should also be available as soon as possible. Ideally, tenants should therefore also be able to obtain a current credit report online via the ImmoScout24 portal and send it directly to the landlord or landlady.

Challenge

Credit reports are undoubtedly some of the more sensitive personal data and can also be misused if third parties receive them.

Therefore, it must be ensured that the person in question actually requests the credit report via the portal and not someone else. Sending a photocopy by post is not an option for security and speed reasons, as ImmoScout24 wants to offer a user-friendly process.

Fraud and abuse in connection with credit reports can take various forms, such as identity theft, false entries or manipulation of data. To prevent this misuse of sensitive personal data, the involvement of an identification service provider is essential.

Solution

Since 2020, ImmoScout24 has relied on the integration of AutoID – WebIDs fully automated online identity verification using liveness detection and biometrics. Identity documents such as ID cards and passports are securely checked in a matter of seconds. Liveness detection uses a depth check based on head movements to verify that the person is a real person and not an image.

By integrating the fully automated identity verification using AutoID, ImmoScout24 users can quickly and easily carry out a credit check in the shortest possible time and download and use the document immediately after successful identification. This brings tenants a step closer to their dream property with just a few clicks.

First, the front and back of the ID card must be photographed. A selfie is then taken with the front camera or the web camera. A liveness detection of the person is carried out using various head movements. The entire identification process is completed after approximately one minute.
